The SMART-Transformer for BMC PATROL Enterprise Manager is an intelligent, programmable plug-in (transformer) for PEM.

With the introduction of SMART, organsiations are able to significantly increase the performance of the PEM by removing unwanted events and reducing configuration needs. Businesses may also see a new lease of life in already installed PEM's, increasing product life and enhancing return on investment.

The SMART-Transformer works by performing three processing phases on each event; Normalisation, Enrichment, and Business Rules

Normalisation takes each incoming event, cleans the data, and creates an unlimited number of tokens to contain sub-string values. Using layout matching, the software will normalise data from different input streams into a common site format.

Enrichment creates rules based on the value of data in tokens and then performs enrichment from external data stores. Data can be loaded into memory for rapid processing or accessed in real-time. Data mapping can be automatically scheduled or loaded by an execution of a rule condition.

Business rules creates rules using all the fully enriched tokens to determine the root cause of a problem and to apply the appropriate actions.
