Data stored on mobile/remote systems is also protected in addition to that stored in the central database. All this is done with no need for any changes at the application or database levels as AppliGuard provides a common outboarded authentication mechanism which can be used.

AppliGuard is designed to reduce the ever growing administrative overhead involved in today's application environments. An intuitive GUI allows for the delegation of Security Operators, defined at the system, group, or application level to manage aspects of security based upon responsibility levels. The support of User Groups throughout AppliGuard facilitates the cloning of a user and their security profile to other users of similar access requirements, thereby reducing the tedium involved in the mass loading or alteration of users to the authentication database.
AppliGuard provides an out boarded authentication engine for multiple applications. This includes major applications such as PeopleSoft and Siebel as well as providing an easy to implement API for use with other third party and in-house developed applications. By providing high quality authentication detached from both the application and, if required, the database it is possible to enforce security controls that the application or database cannot provide.
Also by preventing the user from knowing the true credentials used to communicate with the application, it prevents access by other methods outside of the control of the application.
Database auditing is essential and this can be provided by OS and database security agents which allow you to build an audit strategy at the data element level. These can provide detailed audit trails of changes to a specific data element, and not just at a table level. Operating system auditing/security can be provided by appropriate security tools for all major operating systems.
